G1 Devastator Releases

Postby Overcracker » Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:39 pm

Motto: "Collecting little transforming action figures is the right of all sentient Geeks."
Weapon: Indepentently Targetable Particle Beam Cannons
As some of you may already know, I'm building a database and website to manage Transformers collections.

I'm currently adding the G1 Constructons, but I am finding conflicting information about what G1 Devastator gift sets were released.

The Original Gift Set in green for most of the world.

The Encore releases, the Walmart Vintage release. And the weird G2 releases (not there yet).

But there appear to be a couple of G1 European releases in Yellow, that appear to be different.

There's a Joustra / Ceija Release, but I can't confirm whether this was a gift set or individual releases with the actual combiner bits. There's a lot of Ambiguity on this release. Anybody know if there was a gift set for this, or just individual carded robots?
TFWiki only mentions there's a rumored gift set for the original Milton Bradley release, but does not clarify whether there was a gift set for the Joustra Yellow variation or not. To aid in searchability I need to be a be able to add any gift sets correctly to the Database.

Then there's the yellow European carded release without any combiner bits and remolds to prevent combining even with combiner bits from other releases. I'm pretty sure this release was on individual cards only, and there was never a giftset of this version.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Google yielded absolutely nothing: they all showed the US or Japanese ones. Mind you, stores in Europe are... small with limited shelf space (except for Toys 'R Us in the rare instance you find one there) so giftsets were not a big thing. I do know that the Scramble City combiners had gift sets released there, but Devastator... if anything, GiG from Italy is the usual suspect for importing direct from Takara.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

Thanks. Guess I'll keep it as individual releases for now. If any other info develops, I can always update the entries.

Interestingly from what I have been able to find, GiG released the Constructicons individually in Italy in cards similar to Takara's releases. But nothing about a Gift Set.
