Alfes2010 also posted a gallery of Legends Jetfire, which you'll also notice has a few different changes to it to differentiate from the US version. No chrome on the weapons/fastpack, the weapons are painted like the promotional images we were shown almost a year ago, and new paint/different paint apps on the figure's body itself. (You can see our gallery of the US version here.)
We've mirrored a few of the images below, and you can click on each figure's images to be take to their respective page entries over at Alfes2010's blog.
Gel Shark:
Jetfire:
If you have either figure preordered, you should be seeing them in stock at your favorite etailer shortly, so until then you'll have to let these images whet your appetite for a bit longer.

We had the same thing with Optimus Primal/Convoy and Rattrap/Rattle. I'm more surprised that TakaraTomy kept "Jetfire" for the Leader, even though he should be called "Skyfire" in accordance with the Henkei toy.
I found an even bigger surprise: his bio actually mentions RID or Robots in Disguise, plus it acknowledges his name in that series to be Sky-Byte (スカイバイト sukaibaito)!

True, "Skyfire" isn't mention anywhere in his bio, but the cartoon itself is...

How is that small missile launcher being kept in place near his right elbow?

Is it attached to his chest instead?william-james88 wrote:Hey guys (and girls), I got a question. I was playing around with Hasbro's Roadbuster and comparing him to the Takara Legends version and I caught something odd in this picture:

Wow I never noticed the launcher there before. The fun things people do with their toys.

Haha, thanks for the nice words! I am so impressed with the quality of these Legends figures! Oh man, I wish it so much for you that you get a Gelshark. For the life of me I do not know why these were not chosen to be boxed and sold. Maybe this is just a case of overproduction and extra figures left once they had enough to fill their quota. Regardless, we got very luck this time.
Also, I wanted ot post here because I am looking at reviews of Hasbro's Generation Skybyte and they are resoundingly negative. Granted, the deco on Takara's is insanely better especially for that asymetric chest). But there are problems said that I simply dont see. I will agree that the right arm is odd and lazy and awkward. But, the complaints about him looking down and being unstable don't hold any water. He has amazing balance due to the way the feet are made (also seen negatively). And this allows for a nice curvature of his spine which makes it really easy to place him in a pose where he looks straight.
Also, as crappy as my cellphone image is, you guys can make out his eyes and what color they are. Which is why I do not get the criticism that the paint job on the eyes isn't great on the hasbro version. I mean, how bad can it be that you can't see his eyes?

the right arm is actually my only complaint now. but if you think about it its not that big a deal since he doesnt have anything to hold or reason to point the arm (ala classics megatron). so the fixed wrist aint no thang
incidentally, i really like the other arm because the fin/claw/pincer thing can actually open and close this time around.
as for the instability, i might be able to shed some light (just a theory though). when transforming his legs, theres a part where you snap the shins into the knees, making the legs quite solid. but when i opened mine (he's obviously packaged in bot mode) and his legs are not securely snapped together properly. so assuming the he was TF'd right, i thought "damn those are some awkward unstable legs". but then i TF'd him to shark, then back to bot, and i figured it out.
so... maybe people arent transforming him correctly...? either way, he is rather solid and is a pretty great figure.

Those were my thoughts. Coming from Lena, he was loose so I knew he wasn't in the definite transformed mode when I got him, which made me seek out his best transformation before commenting.
And funny you mention Classics Megs. I thought the SAME thing. And I love classic megs, so I can totally get behind this figure especially since, like you, that arm is my only issue. He is surprisingly stable and solid. I am very impressed by his design. And that Shark mode has the best paneling I have seen in quite a while.

Why get the hasbro if you have the Gelshark on the way? I hope I dont come across as elitist to takara, I am just curious. Also, does anyone know why Hasbro did not go for the asymmetrical chest? Because every version of the character ever depicted seem to have the two colored chest design, unless I am wrong (in that case, please let me know).

Possibly due to the chest forming the shark head this time, which isn't as asymmetrical as the robot mode chest is.william-james88 wrote:Also, does anyone know why Hasbro did not go for the asymmetrical chest? No worries - over time, I've become a Hasbro generations completist (which is elitist in its own way).

Yeah, I'm likewise thinking they might be sketches from the original 1988 toy's production.fenrir72 wrote:Those doodle are most probably for the original Ginrai/PM Optimus Prime.
But if not, they could instead have been something Yuki-san was drawing for the Fans Choice poll had Super Jinrai won instead of Star Saber.

More or less. But if this would have been another MP Ginrai, having a windshield for a back would be a slap to modern engineering techniques ( that or do the henkei convoy transform sequence) let alone be a Masterpiece.
Edt:
What's weird though is that for the first time, the original PM Optimus USA release had longer stacks while the die-cast cab Ginrai had shorter ones, why that didn't carry over to Yuki's doodle is kind of surprising. Another thing, if you still own the original Hasbro catalogue for the Powermaster/Pretenders, PM Optimus Prime was waaaaaaay different from the final product. That proto hand more angled feet and a proportional head.

Besides, MP-1 and MP-10 both had two truck grills, MP-9 had two flame hoods, etc.

I have no problem with the grills, that's were the Godmaster/engine attaches. It's the windshield on his back at an angle (gives Ginrai a stooping appearance)......me no like.

Ok, I know I will sound like a newbie but you guys have been nice and understanding before.
Why is this Ginrai and not Convoy?
Posted by Sabrblade on January 3rd, 2015 @ 11:00am CST
When the Powermaster Optimus Prime toy was released in Japan, it was as a new character named Ginrai (with a soft G, like "Jin-rye") since, in the Japanese cartoon continuity, Optimus/Convoy was already dead once again, so they decided to make it into a new character instead of bringing him back to life for a third time.william-james88 wrote:Why is this Ginrai and not Convoy?
Plus, the Powermaster concept in Japan was reworked into the Godmaster concept, which would have made it difficult for the toy to represent Convoy anyway, since it put more focus on the human rather than the Transtector.

The short story is that in the Japanese timeline, Convoy gets killed off (again) in The Headmasters. The difference is, he wouldn't be properly revived until after Zone in Return of Convoy, as Star Convoy.
Ginrai's body was meant for Convoy, but for unknown reasons, it was turned into a new character named Ginrai. The fact it was a lifeless Transtector (at first) controlled by a human (the Engine) akin to a Japanese Headmaster probably had something to do with it.

Takara keeps impressing me. Even though Hasbro is the sole designer of the toys these days, they still make it their own whenever they have the chance, thats awesome!

What I really was asking is how do we know that these drawing are of Ginrai and not Convoy?
Also, my instinct, was that this was detailing the takara release of Combiner Wars Optimus. This is entirely due to that shot of the truck's front with the different windows, drawn near the back of the cab. They look a lot like the chest of the Torso created using Combiner Wars Optimus. That would also explain the fact that he was several set of windows for transformation.

ジンライ = "Jinrai" = "Ginrai".落書き帳の中に、いくつかジンライを検討している物も残っていた。う~ん、当時から好きだったんだなぁ♪
And, like fenrir72 pointed out, the truck mode design matches the original Ginrai toy pretty much exactly:
